John Erzen’s and Stacy Kozusyn’s English Cottage will immediately enchant tour goers. As soon as John and Stacy saw this house they knew it was for them. An experienced team, the couple has remodeled and flipped 10 homes together, combining John’s background as a contractor with Stacy’s design degree. Adept at working with architects and designers, the couple has the combined vision and ability to transform a teardown into a stunner.
Their complementary skills shine throughout this home, from its solid and sensibly remodeled areas to its beautiful and delightful decor. Rich, jewel-toned decorations combined with stunning dark gray walls create a warm, inviting feel.
While much of this home was already move-in-ready, John took on the monumental task of redoing and finishing the basement space. Working together over the course of a year, the couple redesigned the basement into a perfect guest suite featuring a full kitchen, family room, guest bedroom, bathroom and laundry. Necklaces that Stacy has picked up on her travels around the world as a flight attendant are artfully displayed as shadowboxes on the wall.
Today the basement feels like a spacious and luxurious area that fits seamlessly with the rest of the home.
The galley style kitchen features lovely white woodwork, granite counters and custom cabinetry. It is light and bright with a small seating nook, perfect for enjoying a cup of coffee in the morning. The double-hung wood windows let in abundant light throughout the kitchen and dining room.
The main floor also features a bathroom with custom cabinets as well and a small family room leading to an outdoor oasis of a backyard. Peek out the window and see if you can spot the life-size metal horse, custom made in California.
Upstairs features a master suite and another laundry. The master suite was converted from a former attic space and is cozy and inviting. Clever built-in desks maximize the space at the top of the staircase, providing a perfect backdrop for pictures and notes.
The home’s most striking element is found within its decorating. Each area is rich and tastefully designed with thoughtful touches. Stacy has cleverly woven botanicals and small pieces in to create little surprises the closer you look.
