Nic and Sara McMahon didn’t waste any time jumping into major remodeling mode after purchasing their charming 1923 Tudor home only 11 months ago. What the couple has been able to accomplish in such a short time is amazing!

Sara’s distinct modern style blends well with a warm mix of vintage and metal highlights. Charming vignettes — displaying items like potted succulents, family pictures and treasures from adventures — are scattered throughout the home.

First on their remodeling list? Updating the kitchen by replacing the countertops, lighting and flooring, along with adding a new tile backsplash and painting the cabinets. Rose gold hardware and fixtures were used to warm up the predominantly gray space.

The kitchen leads to their home’s favorite feature — a 1,000 square-foot deck overlooking their completely wooded oversized lot, providing an ideal urban oasis. This deck, with it’s easy kitchen access and beautiful view, are an entertainer’s dream and luckily the McMahons love to host!

The living room leads into a true guest suite, which was converted by finishing part of the garage. The space features a bathroom, bedroom and sitting area, all at the end of an enclosed breezeway, creating a private and comfortable retreat.

A high vaulted ceiling and curving banister lead upstairs. The girls’ rooms have been painted vibrant colors reflecting their personalities. Their shared bathroom was recently remodeled with new subway tile running up the walls, marble floor and new sink and toilet fixtures. It’s light, bright and clean.

The master suite also boasts a new bathroom. Originally a “Jack-and-Jill” half bath connecting to one of their daughter’s rooms, the couple closed off the door to her room and repurposed half of her deep closet to create a standing shower stall. They then slightly bumped out the master wall to provide more space within their new bathroom.  The McMahons are particularly proud of how this bathroom turned out, with it’s custom vanity and built-ins.

This warm family home with its attention to details, distinctive style and modern finishes is truly inspiring.
